I started this business in 2002 after graduating from Converse College, Spartanburg, SC, with an Educational Specialist Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I did my clinical practicum at The Family Therapy Teaching Clinic of Westgate in Spartanburg, SC under the direction of Dr. James N. Rentz, D.Min., LMFT, LMFT-S. I am currently licensed in the state of North Carolina and South Carolina as a Marriage and Family Therapist. I am a Clinical Member of the AAMFT (American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists).
I am very interested in working with people in these three areas
- Women who wish to achieve emotional, financial, and spiritual independence.
- Couples wanting to improve their relationships.
- Children who have emotional problems.
In addition to my Ed.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy I have two other graduate degrees. I have a Masters in International Management from Thunderbird in Phoenix, AZ and a Master of Science in Taxation from Fontbonne University in St. Louis, MO. I did my undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN and received a Batchelor of Business Administration in Finance and Modern Languages. I worked in the corporate world for seventeen years, from 1982 – 1999.
During those years as a single, female professional working in a large city, I often felt like I was drifting aimlessly through life, not exactly knowing what I wanted, but always wishing for “something better”. That elusive “something better” that I was seeking so desperately was usually a new job or a new boyfriend. Nothing ever connected for me until a dear friend helped me realize that the empty feeling gnawing away at my insides was driving me towards a reckless, compulsive lifestyle.
Thankfully, she introduced me to a wonderful wise woman who became my therapist. I did my inner work with this therapist for nine years, and the process of therapy changed my life. This wonderful wise woman taught me how to re-value and re-define my goals and priorities, and I learned to make Conscious Choices that strengthened my sense of Self and integrity. Through therapy, I learned the difference between living life “below par” (driven unconsciously by the body, mind, and emotions) and living life “above par” (in the spiritual realm of Conscious Choice and integrity). I began to pay attention to my dreams, and learned how to access the language of the unconscious. I learned the value of journaling, reading, and self-reflection. I began to move from living out of unconscious emotional reactions to living intentionally and consciously from felt-feeling and intuition.
Gradually I began to take control of my time, my finances, and my spiritual life. After five years of cleaning up my “stuff”, the inner work I did helped me get clear about what I wanted in a soul mate and to my amazement I recognized him when he showed up. We married at age 40. Empowered by the path of Conscious Choice, I decided to go back to school in order to get my therapist’s license so I could begin to share with others the principles that changed my life. This vision is my life’s calling, and fills me with meaning and purpose.
I live a simple, quiet life with my husband Scott and our cat, Rembrandt (Remy), in Flat Rock, NC. I like to hike in the mountains, garden, and play the piano. If you are reading this and find these words inspirational, I hope you will contact me because I would like to meet you.
